10 “Shut Down” Bar Trivia Questions

We had a rowdy crowd for Trivia Night at Ventnor Sports Cafe’s yesterday. I’d like to take all the credit, but certain sporting events were the likely cause. The Labatt rep handing out free beer and t-shirts certainly helped too.

Rounds 2 and 4 were dedicated to the lazy clown-babies that shut down the government. I managed to squeeze in one politics question but the rest are pretty pop-culture-driven.

Unfortunately for team Bottle of Wine & Dudes, "Mark Gable" was not born Marion Morrison.

Unfortunately for team Bottle of Wine & Dudes, “Mark Gable” was not born Marion Morrison.

This week was Pop-Culture Trivia Night at Ventnor Sports Cafe. And despite all the movie buffs and Netflix junkies in the house, the quiz was actually kind of tough (which I knew going into, but I rolled with it anyways). #ToughLove #TriviaStrong

Here’s some insight on how the teams fared for some of the questions. Look at the results and see if you’re smarter than the average team.

The 5 hardest trivia questions from last week’s pub quiz, statistically speaking.

Not all bar trivia is easy. That’s why we have some people that take home first-place bar dollars, and others that earn last place CVS-brand gummie worms.

Below are some of the harder questions from last week’s Trivia Night at Ventnor Sports Cafe, based on the number of incorrect responses.

The correct answers, as well as all the teams’ wrong answers, are below.

If you aced this mini-quiz, you’re sure to smoke the competition in a live setting. We’re back at it tomorrow night at 8:30. So join us, won’t you please?

5 Questions from Last Week’s Trivia Night (and how the teams answered them)

**The following post pertains to Tuesday Trivia at Ventnor Sports Cafe. Bringing you the best Trivia Night in Adams Morgan (D.C.) since Mid-2012.

Last week was Earth Day so I went all out with my Captain Planet theme. Earth..Fire..Wind..Water..Heart… Gooo Planet!

Here’s a sample of some of the stuff I asked. Statistically, question 4 was the easiest, with 6 of the 8 teams guessing correctly. The worst was 5, where only two teams were right. The correct answers are below in bold.

Trivia Night Recap: September 11, 2012

Another successful week for Tuesday Trivia at Ventnor Sports Cafe (unless you were The Oodles, who came in last place).  Here’s how the rest of the teams did:

Round 1

The team currently known as ‘P. Menaces’ was out for blood after they came up short on Neil Armstrong night two weeks ago. They scored a perfect 26 to open it up (including +1 bonus point for knowing the nickname of Ed “Too Tall” Jones). They also had intimate knowledge of the Foot Clan, Footloose, Adam Foote, and metatarsal bones.

Round 2

P. Menaces maintained their lead after the audio round, sponsored by Jock Jams. Special thanks to House of Pain, C+C Music Factory, Technotronic, 2 Unlimited, and Republica. It’s My Birthday, Bitches ended up two points off the lead. Team RG4 rounded out the top three.

Round 3

P. Menaces extends their lead after some homemade NFL-themed Before & After. RG4 is still in the hunt and a three-way tie for third place develops, marked by the emergence That Guy John Denver is Full of Shit.

Round 4

In Round 4, teams tried to prove their American-ness.

What navy admiral famously yelled “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead”?

Where did George Washington’s first inaugural address take place?

If you knew the answers to these questions, you would have most likely done better than The Oodles, who locked up last place and took home of a jar of sliced peaches.

How you fared in round 4 depended on how well you knew your movie presidents. RG4 did slightly better in that department but still fell two points short of victory. It all came down to Anthony Hopkins’ role in Amistad (John Quincy Adams, duh). RG4 answered “Adams”. I subtly gave them the a second chance to throw in “Quincy” but they wouldn’t bite. And that was the end of that. Game goes to P. Menaces.

Will they repeat next week? See them LIVE in action next Tuesday. Thanks to everyone for coming out!

Trivia Night Recap: August 21, 2012

Hey team! Thanks for coming out to Ventnor Sports Cafe this week for Tuesday trivia. We started the night off strong and didn’t let up. Here’s a quick recap:

Round 1

Apparently everyone knows what an Astronomical Unit is. But who did Linda Eastman marry on March 12, 1969? Only two teams knew the answer, including P. Menaces, who took the early lead. When it came to choosing the Round 1 prize, they opted for the locker dry-erase board, instead of the locker mirror.

Round 2

P. Menaces increase their lead to 4 after the audio round (string quartet covers). Cocaine Condoms continues to lurk in second place…

Round 3

The Only Black Guy in the Room comes out of nowhere to take the lead by 1 after the shark movie picture round (and won a can of tuna for their efforts). I will have to say, as far as move picture rounds go, this one was damn tough. P. Menaces drops down to third place…(NOTE: The locker mirror was still available as a prize, until I fumbled it and it shattered into a million pieces).

Round 4

Round 4 was all about Girl Power! Do you know the actual name of the Spice Girls’ debut album? Or how Diane Crump made sports history? How about the first American woman in space? P. Menaces made a run for it, but they couldn’t catch The Only Black Guy in the Room, who took home the grand prize bar tab. The dynamic duo of We’re Not Dating – I just like to F@#% secured last place and earned a couple beer cozies I got for free in the mail for this bacon party I was supposed to throw… but that’s another story.

Until next week!
